Christmas Party Feedback and 2009 in review..

One of my career blessings has been that in this first year as a balloon twister, I have had so many clients so willing to give me feedback and comments. A few even take the time to forward pictures as well. Here is one that did both, thank you Jackie! Below is what she had to say and some pictures she forwarded to me.

"I booked Miss Balloon Heart for our Mustang Car Club Family Xmas Party in order to keep the children amused during the cocktail hour. She did a fantastic job!! What really blew us all away was the "Vista Blue Mustang convertible" she made out of balloons which included glo-sticks in the white balloon headlights!! How creative!!" ~Jackie Dahlen

This year I have learned so very much. I have had the privilege to entertain in countless homes for birthday parties and holiday parties, at corporate events, stores, libraries, restaurants and a wedding. I believe I have FINALLY found the look needed for Miss Balloon Heart - only took me 10 months to find (smile) and the tools that work best for me to do the best job. I have always been one to believe in continuing education and with this career it is no different.

I attended Diamond Jam, a balloon twisting convention in Las Vegas in August, where I was able to study with some of the best in the industry and have found a local balloon jam group that is amazing! Such talent and willingness to share is yet another blessing that I count in my life.

Along with the attending the convention, I have DVDs, books and magazines that I read/watch weekly so that I will be the best entertainer for your event. In 2010, I will begin the path of becoming a CBA (Certified Balloon Artist) balloon professional. Can you believe this stuff exists? A year ago, I did not know what a 260 balloon was and now it is in my daily vocabulary. I find this whole journey exciting and am thrilled at what 2010 and beyond has in store for "Miss Balloon Heart." I do place it all in God's hands and will go where He leads me.

Thank you all for being part of my journey this year and for all of your support. Have an absolutely wonderful holiday season!

Hanging out at the mall

I spent the afternoon with my friends at the Sleep Number store in the Coventry Mall and brought a balloon christmas tree with me. Dave was kind enough to stand in the second picture, for size reference. : )

It was nice to see so many familiar faces this afternoon. Have an absolutely wonderful week, everyone!

Lovely weekend and a fun video.

What a fun, balloon-filled weekend!

Yesterday it was the Coventry Mall and a private Christmas party. This evening, I had a super duper fabulous time at the Valley Forge Mustang Club's Christmas Party! Thanks for inviting me to twist balloons for the children, everyone!

There are so many talented balloon artists in the world, I thought that on some of my posts, I should include a link to some of the great ones who continue to awe and inspire me...today, I introduce Larry Moss to those of you who are not "balloon people." Click here for a fun video of his artwork.

Have a wonderful week, everyone!

What was I thinking when I did that?

Ever have those thoughts? I'll be honest. I have them more often then I care to admit.

I had some time to think about this blog today with a focus on how I have not had any motivation to post anything on it since I changed it to a "party planning" blog. Seriously, what was I thinking?

I do LOVE balloons and I enjoy taking pictures of things I have created (be it my design or someone else's that I have learned) and enjoy posting about it but this new "subject" of mine, well since I rarely throw parties myself, it is not inspiring me tremendously.

So those of you who are hanging in with me. Thank you. This blog will quickly migrate back to what it was in it's beginnings, posts of what I am learning along my balloon twisting journey. This whole thing is such a tremendous learning experience for me. In just a few weeks, I celebrate one year from purchasing my balloon kit which began this fabulous adventure of mine.

Saturday, I will be at the Vendor Blender at St. Paul's UCC (details on the right). I will be making these holiday "Little Wrist Friends" there.

Abundant Blessings to all of you!

Online Invitations and Giveaway Notice.

In my search for party planning information, I came across a post from Ellen, at "Thrifty & Chic Mom" where she is giving away two premium memberships to mypunchbowl.com. Click here to view her post , learn about this party planning website and how to enter her giveaway.

I, personally, have used Evite for my annual Thanksgiving dinner invitations, casual play dates and birthday gatherings. While I ALWAYS enjoy receiving a paper invitation in the mail, I feel no less important when I receive an online invitation. Being able to respond in seconds is a nice bonus to these online invitations.

In a google search, this evening, I also discovered smilebox.com and this looks like it has some lovely online invitations.

What have you used? Do you have a favorite?

Birthday Party Ideas...

One of my most favorite birthday party planning resources is www.birthdaypartyideas.com. In the few years where we had larger parties for our daughter, I used this site almost exclusively. I searched for themes and just generally enjoyed reading all of the fabulous ideas that everyone else had done and were kind enough to share with the public.

This website has topics for Kids Party Ideas, Teen Party Ideas, Adult Party Ideas and Holiday Party Ideas. I will warn you that this is not the site to explore when you have only a few minutes. If you are anything like me... I run a simple search on a party topic and an hour later find I'm only scratching the surface of what might possibly be done.

Enjoy and let me know if you find something amazingly cool on there!

Where have all the RSVPs gone?

Hello, all!

Miss Balloon Heart has found where her joy lies with balloon twisting and it is the good old birthday party event. In this last year I have worked birthday parties, restaurants, carnivals, car shows, craft fairs, church events, library events, preschool events, a wedding and lots more.

Do I twist balloons at all of them? Yes. Some I presented a story time with balloons, some we did an interactive audience show but for all I twist balloons. However, I found there are certain events that have me excited to prepare for, excited to work and I feel energized when I'm finished and it is without a doubt...BIRTHDAY PARTIES.

In order to keep my joy this year and to be the best entertainer I am able to be, birthday parties will be my primary focus in 2010. I am excited that I will have birthday party packages announced by December, stay tuned!

With this in mind, this blog is going to migrate into a place where I will post interesting party planning articles and resources that I find on the internet to share with you. My facebook fan page contains updates on what Miss Balloon Heart is up to, so rather than duplicating posts, this blog will focus on parties.

My first party planning post comes from Momtrends. The resounding comment I hear from birthday party planning mothers when I confirm their events is "I don't have many RSVP's." This leaves the birthday child's party organizer in a tough situation so here is a timely article about party etiquette to speak to that.

Type to you all soon!

A bear with flowers...

I made this as a "thank you" for my chiropractic office who kindly donated a one hour massage for Encore Theater Company's raffle! My sweet daughter posed with it to provide a scale reference.

I enjoyed the birthday parties that I was blessed to work, yesterday, as well as PA Cyber's Grand Opening Event on Tuesday evening. They were kind enough to send me these pictures...

I also booked my first wedding this week and can not wait for that event!

Have a fabulous week everyone and thanks for reading.

Balloon Camp Coverage by THE TODAY SHOW

Hello, all!

The coverage of the convention aired today. There is more coverage on THE TODAY SHOW website of the Balloon Camp convention. It quite honestly, does not even begin to cover the amount of talent and amazing creations that are at this convention but it is a fun piece to watch and of course, I'm happy that Robbie got air time with the car that stole much of my sleep.

Diamond Jam 2009

Hello, all!

Well, I believe I have finally recovered from my trip out to Las Vegas to the Balloon Twisting Convention, Diamond Jam. The highlights of my trip were working on a life-size pink Cadillac made from balloons with Robbie Furman and a great team of balloon twisters....

and placing third in the New Diamond competition (for individuals who have never competed before).

"Look Mom, no hands!"

I do have more pictures on my Facebook Fan page and hope to upload the remaining pictures from my camera by the end of next week also to my Facebook Fan Page.

Also, a friendly reminder that this Saturday I will be twisting balloons at East Coast Thunder from 2-4PM. The event begins at 12PM and is very exciting. Click here for more information!

Have a wonderful rest of the week, everyone!

A balloon home for my daughter and a visit at Manatawny Manor

Hello, all!

I was able to snap a few pictures this week that are worth sharing. Darling Daughter and I decided to just have fun making a balloon home type of structure - it turned into an entranceway for her bunkbed hut. Could it be more colorful? She enjoyed decorating the "stained glass window" portion.

Today we visited Manatawny Manor for their "coffee & conversations" get together. My daughter was on her official assistant duty today (she assisted and made a few balloons for the residents) and did very well. I knew the residents would enjoy her as much (if not more) than the balloons.

And this is just proof that balloons are not just for children! This lovely woman said to me "..and I wasn't planning on coming to this today. I'm so glad I did."

Being creative with balloons...

Why should I have all the fun? Today I was blessed to have an event where I led a story time about hats. After some audience participation with our second book, we then spent time creating our own balloon hats - the children were so very creative!

New Method to my Blogging Madness

Hello, all!

Rather than continuously posting about my events for the upcoming week and flooding your inbox with the same information week after week, I have decided to post all of my upcoming events on the sidebar of my blog so you may find them here or directly on my website. When I book an upcoming public event, I will announce it in a post here once it is officially booked and then it will move to the sidebar on this blog.

So, what WILL be in my future posts space, you may ask?
* New balloon designs that I am learning
* Pictures from events
* New products/services that will be offered by Miss Balloon Heart
* Any discounts that I run will first be announced on this blog.
* Other fun stuff relating to balloons.

So, along those lines....I made a fun balloon for my daughter's birthday and have posted that on my Facebook Fan page (see above for the link).

Below is a small vase of flowers that I created when practicing my balloon flowers.

Working on the flowers, this week, inspired me to create an arrangement that is made up of flower bracelets. I know this is not a new concept in the balloon twisting world but rather than looking at other balloon artist's designs, I decided to see what I could come up with on my own and the picture below is the result of this inspiration. It holds 10 flower bracelets. I was able to take it to Friendly's on Wednesday to test it out. The bouquet looked nice on the counter but I do need to work on the vase/holder. I have some fun ideas for that and am looking forward to trying them.

Week of June 22, 2009. Two discounts for blog readers.

This week is calm on the balloon twisting front to allow my daughter, Butterfly Balloon, to attend drama camp. She is quite excited about the camp which is always a good thing.

My public event this week is my usual, fun, Wednesday night spot of Friendly's in Pottstown on Shoemaker Rd. I will be there from 5PM - 7:30PM.

As for the discount mentioned in the title....the next two booking requests for events in the month of July that I receive (via website, email or phone) that tell me "I read your blog and would like the discount" will receive a $20 discount off the total cost of your event for events that are booked for 1.5 hours or more. This must be a new booking request and for a July 2009 event. Please note that I will not be offering discounts in the months of August through December of this year, as I will be limiting my hours during those months to focus on family activities that we have planned.

Below are balloons I made this week... have a wonderful week, everyone!

For an explorer birthday party, this weekend.

The large flower that traveled with me this week.

A parody of a McDonald's fry guy.

A goofy, larger, gun. I can not say that I am a fan of guns but since they are made from balloons and all of my balloon guns shoot jelly or cookies, it does not seem so bad. This is only a small portion of one of Don Caldwell's designs, the Monkey Tron5000. I did make a Fish Tron5000 this week at an event but did not get a picture. Maybe next time.

A shout out to my balloon twisting forum friend, Peter John Lindsay who was kind enough to share his awesome pictures and instructions.

Yes, that is supposed to be an animal rescue dude. Hubby said it looked like "Uncle Animal Rescue Dude." I tend to agree with him but hey, it was my first try. Five-year-old Darling Daughter, however, loved it!

These are all good for centerpieces or hats. Names have been edited out of the picture.

Dine-in guests 10 & under get complete meals for only $1.99. Ray's has free refills and if you like boardwalk fries - you have to try this place - YUMMY. The burgers are made fresh - never frozen and are delicious. I'm looking forward to trying their signature crab cakes on my next visit. Visit Ray's Burger And Fries Website for their location. See you there!

Math posts??

Yes, I guess I have too many blogs when I post a homeschool math article to my balloon twisting blog. Sorry if you all got it, I moved it to where it appropriately belongs. I have some exciting things to announce and I'll blog about them by Monday! Hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

Week of May 11

Hello, all!

This week is a light balloon twisting week for me, by choice, as Encore Theater Company is holding auditions for the fall production of Music Man and I get to have fun assisting with casting the show.

However, I look forward to seeing all of my friends at Friendly's on Shoemaker Rd. in Pottstown on Wednesday evening from 5:00-7:30PM.

  • Click here to join the Best Friends of Friendly's club online and get a 3-scoop sundae just for enrolling. Don't forget about the Sprinkle Vision at Friendly's where you may enter to win free ice cream for a year! My daughter enjoyed using her glasses with the online game.

What I have been up to...

I completed my VERY FIRST balloon show on Saturday night for a church congregational dinner. I had the best time and received many affirmations that I am on the right path. If you know of a church that is interested in a 30 minute gospel balloon show, definitely tell them about me as I now have one ready to go! Below is a picture of the two "lions," from our balloon version of "Daniel and the Lion's Den."

I also got word this week that I will be the balloon twister for "Agora Showcase" events all around the eastern side of PA in June. This will be seven public events at different Barnes And Noble locations. I could not be more excited. That being said, I will not be doing many parties on the weekends in June, as I will need some family time and recovery time.

Additionally, I was scheduled back at the Hard Bean Cafe for Thursday, June 5th at 10:00AM and also Monday, July 6th at 11:30 AM, immediately following a story time led by the Boyertown Library.

Yes, I'm busy, busy, busy. If you are waiting to book me, well, I would not wait long, as I have June almost completely booked and have late summer and fall dates already coming in.

I pray you all have a wonderful week. Thanks for reading.

Princess Birthday Arch

I have a princess themed birthday party today. I wanted to do something different from the balloon birthday cake and I've needed an excuse to work on princess balloons, so I made a couple of princesses and am going to have them deliver the message (which isn't complete in this picture).

Week of May 4th...

Hello, all! Hope you are having/had a wonderful weekend. Can you believe it is May already?

I had a wonderful time this morning at Limerick Bowl, twisting balloons for their Junior Leagues. What a party they throw there!

As for this week.....

You are always welcome to join me at my regular Wednesday evening balloon twisting spot - Friendly's on Shoemaker Road in Pottstown - yes, right by the Wal-Mart. I will be there from 5PM - 7:30PM.

Click here to join the Best Friends of Friendly's club online and get a 3-scoop sundae just for enrolling. Don't forget about the Sprinkle Vision at Friendly's where you may enter to win free ice cream for a year! My daughter enjoyed using her glasses with the online game.

I also will be at the Hard Bean Cafe in Boyertown this Thursday morning, May 7th, from 10:00-11:00AM. Moms bring your children and get yourself some yummy coffee!

I hope to share some exciting public events with you all soon. I have a few in the works that have me jumping up and down.

On a non-balloon note, if you are local to Douglassville and have children interested in theater, Encore Community Theater, for children in K-12th grade, will be having their auditions for their fall production, "Music Man" next week - I will be assisting with casting, so yes, I will be there but without balloons. : )

I wish you all a blessed week. Thanks for reading and I look forward to seeing you soon!
